For Me to Live is Christ!… By Pastor Ron Hamm

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Phil. 1:21 One might ask these questions: What does it mean to live for Jesus Christ? What does it mean to live in His power everyday? Is our life about Jesus Christ or ourselves? Many people want to add Jesus to their lives but still be in total control. This letter from Philippians gives us much insight into what it means to live in the power of Jesus Christ and for His glory.

The Apostle Paul was in a prison cell for his faith when he wrote this letter of encouragement so obviously the fact that we are suffering does not hinder our ability to live pleasing lives to the Lord. Contrary to much popular preaching today, loving Jesus is not about experiencing only positive circumstances or having an easy life, but it is about surrendering our circumstances to Him and trusting Him no matter what.

We should not live our lives the way we want and then ask Jesus to bless our efforts. No, it is not like that. Paul said, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21). Our very life is Christ if we would be His followers. It is Christ that is our hope for eternal life; it is He that provides direction for our lives, the provision for our needs, and the power to carry out His purposes. For Me to Live is Christ.

In order for us to live in Christ, by Christ, and for Christ, something must happen…..We must die.
